The Philippine Center for Economic Development (PCED), in partnership with the UP School of Economics (UPSE), will hold the UPSE-PCED Friday Seminar featuring Prof. Maria Cielo Magno, PhD on September 11, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Judith R. Duavit-Vazquez and Class of 1984 Lecture Room (UPSE 105).
Economics, Public Policy, and Everyday Life
Prof. Magno will share insights from her economics textbook written for Grade 9 students, which connects foundational economic concepts with everyday experiences and Philippine realities.
The book emphasizes that economics is inseparable from the choices people make in the market, household, and government. It discusses key topics including scarcity and markets, macroeconomic stability, trade, and financial literacy, while encouraging readers to examine economic mechanisms, identify who benefits and bears the costs, and consider what the evidence supports.
