On October 14, 2025 Gerry’s Prime Season @90 celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Gerardo P. Sicat — eminent economist, founding chair of the Philippine Center for Economic Development (PCED), founder of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), and former Director-General of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), now known as the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) held at the PCED Auditorium in the UP School of Economics (UPSE),
The event gathered colleagues, mentees, and friends from UPSE, government agencies, and the academic community to honor Dr. Sicat’s contributions to economic research, policy formulation, and institution building. The program featured messages from partner institutions, musical performances, and a special serenade, reflecting his lifelong commitment to advancing economic development in the Philippines.
A highlight of the celebration was the launch of the Gerardo P. Sicat Award for Best Undergraduate Papers e-book compilation, featuring works of awardees from 1973 to 2025. This compendium underscores Dr. Sicat’s lasting influence in nurturing young economists and promoting evidence-based development policy.
Through this event, PCED and UPSE reaffirm their commitment to continue Dr. Sicat’s legacy by advancing excellence in economics and nation-building.
