The Center for Financial and Monetary Economics (CFME) convened students, faculty, researchers, and policy practitioners for its CFME Talks lecture, “Macro Outlooks: Global, Asia, the Philippines,” on 28 January 2026 at the UP School of Economics.
Dr. John Beirne, Principal Economist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), provided a comprehensive assessment of the global macroeconomic landscape, highlighting shifts in trade patterns, financial conditions, inflation dynamics, and growth prospects across major economies. He emphasized how ongoing changes in the global trade environment are reshaping supply chains and capital flows, with significant implications for emerging markets in Asia.
Dr. Dave Fernandez, Senior Fellow at CFME, contextualized these global developments within the Philippine setting, discussing domestic growth drivers, external vulnerabilities, and key policy challenges. The lecture underscored the importance of sound macroeconomic management, regional cooperation, and strategic positioning in navigating uncertainty and sustaining long-term growth.
The event forms part of CFME’s continuing commitment to fostering informed dialogue on financial and monetary issues that matter to policymakers, scholars, and the broader public.
