The Center for Financial and Monetary Economics (CFME) held its Talk Series on “Macro Outlooks: Global, China, and the Philippines” on 29 April 2026, bringing together leading experts to discuss the current economic landscape amid ongoing global challenges, particularly the energy crisis.
The session featured Dr. Chang, Managing Director and Chief China Economist of Barclays Investment Bank, who provided an in-depth assessment of China’s economic performance and policy direction. He was joined by Dr. Fernandez, Senior Fellow at the CFME and Visiting Professor at the Philippine Center for Economic Development, who presented insights on the Philippine economy and its resilience in the face of external shocks.
Both speakers highlighted key macroeconomic trends shaping global markets, with particular attention to the interconnected impacts of energy supply constraints, inflationary pressures, and shifting trade dynamics. The discussion underscored the importance of adaptive economic strategies and policy coordination in navigating uncertain global conditions.
The webinar is part of CFME’s continuing efforts to provide timely and relevant economic discourse in collaboration with the University of the Philippines School of Economics and the Philippine Center for Economic Development.
